This is Ford service information for the fourth generation Super Duty, the trucks Ford redesigned for 2017, compiled into one searchable PDF of 10,643 pages. It is the largest manual we sell. Inside are 81 documented systems and more than 10,200 figure captions, each illustration carrying Ford's own attribution line beneath it. The organisation is by system and component, not by chapter, so you go straight to the part you are working on, and each topic opens with its specifications and torque figures before the procedures begin.

Which vehicles this manual fits

  • Fits: Ford F-250, F-350, F-450 and F-550 Super Duty, pickups and Chassis Cab. Where a system differs by model the manual says so in the topic title itself, for example the Ford 10.50-inch rear axle is documented for F-250 and F-350, while the Dana full floating wheel hubs are documented for F-350 to F-550
  • Covers years: 2019, 2018, 2017
  • Engine options, each with its own mechanical section: the 6.2L (2V) petrol V8, the 6.7L diesel, and the 6.8L (3V) V10 which the manual documents specifically for F-450 and F-550
  • Diesel emissions work: the reductant tank is referenced in over 230 places, with the reductant injector documented alongside the diesel particulate filter, and there is a manual regeneration procedure carrying Ford's own warnings about tailpipe temperature and fuel sulphur content
  • Gearbox: TorqShift and TorqShift6 are both covered, with separate topics for the transmission cooler and the external control system
  • Braking and stability: the anti-lock brake system is documented together with the Vehicle Dynamic System, and there is a dedicated trailer brake system topic referenced in more than 150 places
  • Steering: Hydraulic Power Assist Steering, with the steering column, column switches and steering linkage each documented separately
  • Electrical reference: a Fuse and Relay Information topic, module communications network and module configuration, and the multifunction electronic module
  • Language: English
  • Pages: 10,643 in a single PDF
  • File type: PDF

What you can repair with it

The three engines are kept properly apart. The 6.2L petrol V8, the 6.7L diesel and the 6.8L V10 each have their own Engine Mechanical topic, and the V10 one is written for the F-450 and F-550, which is exactly the truck it is fitted to. Around them sit separate topics for ignition on the petrol V8, starting systems split between petrol and diesel, gasoline engine cooling, a diesel powertrain secondary cooling topic that the petrol engines do not have, the turbocharger, and a fuel cooling system.

Emissions work on the 6.7L is the reason many owners buy a manual for this generation, and it is properly covered. The reductant tank appears in over two hundred places, the reductant injector has its own coverage, the diesel particulate filter is documented, and the manual regeneration procedure comes with Ford's own cautions, including the warning to only initiate one with the tailpipe clear of obstruction and the note that ultra low sulphur diesel is required to avoid poisoning the catalyst.

Underneath, the axles are documented by what is actually fitted rather than by badge. The Ford 10.50-inch ring gear rear axle is covered for F-250 and F-350, full floating wheel hubs appear in a Dana version for F-350 to F-550 and a Ford version for F-250 and F-350, and there are separate front suspension topics for rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive, plus the transfer case and four-wheel drive systems. Braking brings the anti-lock system together with the Vehicle Dynamic System, and the integrated trailer brake system has a topic of its own.

Body and cabin coverage is fuller than most manuals of this size manage. There is a body repairs topic, front end body panels, closures, the pickup bed and platform body, bumpers, a roof opening panel, seating, restraints and glass. On the electrical side you get fuse and relay information, the module communications network with module configuration, the multifunction electronic module, and the instrumentation and message centre.

Manual language and format

Written in English and supplied as a single PDF of 10,643 pages. The text layer is intact, so a part number, a torque value or a component name can be searched and found directly, and any page prints on its own. It opens with any standard PDF reader on Windows, Mac, tablet or phone. At 395 MB it is a large download, so use a wired or stable connection and save it somewhere with room.

Questions about this manual

What engine is in a 2018 F-250 Super Duty?
Either the 6.2L petrol V8 or the 6.7L diesel, and this manual documents both with a full Engine Mechanical topic each. If you are working on an F-450 or F-550 there is a third, the 6.8L V10, which the manual covers in its own topic named for those two models. Each engine also gets its own fuel charging and controls coverage, so you are never reading around an engine you do not have.

Does this cover the F-450 and F-550 chassis cab, or only the pickups?
Both. Chassis Cab is referenced throughout, and where a system genuinely differs by model the manual names the models in the topic itself. The clearest examples are the V10 engine topic written for F-450 and F-550, the Dana full floating wheel hubs for F-350 to F-550, and the Ford 10.50-inch rear axle for F-250 and F-350.

What transmission is in a 2017-2019 Super Duty?
TorqShift, in one of two forms, and the manual covers both as TorqShift and TorqShift6 with the transmission cooler and the external control system as separate topics. Check which is in your truck before you start, because the two are documented apart from one another and not merged.

Will this cover my 2020 Super Duty?
No, and it is worth being clear why. Ford revised the Super Duty for 2020 with a new 7.3L petrol V8 and a ten-speed automatic. Neither appears anywhere in this book, not once, which is exactly what you would expect of a manual written for 2017 to 2019. If your truck is a 2020 or later you need the later edition.

Does it include fuse and relay information?
Yes, as a topic of its own, alongside the module communications network, module configuration and the multifunction electronic module. Combined with the component testing topic, that is the material most owners need when chasing an electrical fault instead of replacing a mechanical part.
